Day 5 - Ups and Downs

Set off around 9 a.m., came off the I25 North to the 550 (44 according to our old map). Much scenic driving today with lots of hill climbing and descending, dramatic landscapes. Turned off East onto the 96, past Abiquiu dam and lake, then turned North on 84, took 64 West at Tres Piedras and on to Taos, arriving about 2 p.m. Had a bite to eat (Subway), went to supermarket for a few essentials (wine and detergent), and then checked into Best Western: large room with balcony, freebie wine, cheese, crackers, chips and salsa early evening, full cooked breakfast tomorrow morning: all for $71 including tax. That's for two people! - UK readers eat your heart out! Intend to have a look round the town tomorrow morning before hitting the road again. There look to be some interesting museums/art galleries here, not to mention the Rocky Road Chocolate Factory...

$71?! Nice. For a little more than that, I got 2 nights' stay at a hostel on Loch Ness this last weekend, but all I got with it was rice krispies, toast and fruit juice. Oh, and I shared a dorm with 5 other blokes, 2 of whom were champion snorers.
